English test

As I said earlier in last posts, English grade is necessary for recruitment since English skill are essential in today's global era. Even in the position which is not needed to use English, applicant's English skill is important skills requisite for a job. Therefore, in this post, I will let you know what kinds of English test we have to consider.


1. TOEIC


The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is "an English language test designed specifically to measure the everyday English skills of people working in an international environment."
There are different forms of the exam: The TOEIC Listening & Reading Test consists of two equally graded tests of comprehension assessment activities totaling a possible 990 score; the newer TOEIC Speaking & Writing Test comprises tests of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, overall coherence, and structure (organization of sentences) totaling a possible 400 score.

An examination fee : 42,000 won


2. TOEFL


Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL, is a standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers wishing to enroll in U.S. universities. The test is accepted by many English-speaking academic and professional institutions. TOEFL is one of the two major English-language tests in the world, the other being the IELTS.
TOEFL is a trademark of ETS (Educational Testing Service), a private non-profit organization, which designs and administers the tests. The scores are valid for two years; then they are no longer reported.

An examination fee : $ 170


3. TEPS


The Test of English Proficiency or TEPS is an English proficiency test created by Seoul National University's Language Education Institute to evaluate South Korean test takers' English language skills. TEPS has been administered nationwide since January 1999. It consists of 200 questions which are divided into four sections: Listening (60 questions, 55 minutes), Grammar (50 questions, 25 minutes), Vocabulary (50 questions, 15 minutes) and Reading (40 questions, 45 minutes). TEPS scores are divided into the ten ratings ranging from 1 + to 5. It is designed to test applicants' communicative English skills and to minimize test-taker reliance on certain strategies such as rote memorization. A study of the test indicated that it is valid and fair.
TEPS score is valid to be converted into TOEFL score and this conversion is used throughout many universities in the United States.

4. IELTS


The International English Language Testing System is an international standardised test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It is jointly managed by Cambridge English Language Assessment, the British Council and IDP Education Pvt Ltd, and was established in 1989. IELTS is one of the two major English-language tests in the world, the other being the TOEFL.
There are two versions of the IELTS: the Academic Version and the General Training Version:
-The Academic Version is intended for those who want to enroll in universities and other institutions of higher education and for professionals such as medical doctors and nurses who want to study or practise in an English-speaking country.
-The General Training Version is intended for those planning to undertake non-academic training or to gain work experience, or for immigration purposes.


An examination fee : 225,000 won


5. OPIC


Oral Proficiency Interview - computer (OPI-c) is a computerized test of English-usage skills developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and Language Testing International (LTI). It is a computer-based version of the OPI. OPI-c is a kind of test business interview. The one-hour test is a series of recorded questions which are accessed by computer. The test scores have seven levels. The evaluations are done by ACTFL professionals in the United States. The interview is recorded and scored by the interviewer as well as a second certified tester using the following scale: Superior, Advanced High, Advanced Mid, Advanced Low, Intermediate High, Intermediate Mid, Intermediate Low, Novice High, Novice Mid, Novice Low.

An examination fee : 78,100 won


6. GRE


The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardised test that is an admissions requirement for most graduate schools in the United States. Created and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) in 1949, the exam aims to measure verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study. The GRE General Test is offered as a computer-based exam administered at Prometric testing centers.

An examination fee : $ 195



Even though there are lots of English tests above this, these are internationally authorized English tests. Especially, toeic, toeic speaking and opic are considered as necessary tests. Find the test that is the best form of learning English of you, and try to get a good grade!
